We have 3 ducks one of them was bitten today by our dog. The duck has a hole in the front of his neck I think its his throat and you can see inside of him through this hole. The duck is alive and no longer bleeding but his head slumps down as he stands. We brought him into the house and put him in a box and he is now laying down. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Is it likely the duck will survive? Please help!

He may unless the hole is through his esophagus then he may not be able to drink or eat, Have you tried to get him drink water? Clean his wound real good with either watered down betadine or saline which you can make by using warm water and salt take a wash cloth and just dribble over the wound. keep him warm but not hot and quiet. shock is something else you are probably dealing with. Please keep us updated on how he is doing.

Ducks can come back from horrendous wounds so don't give up on him too soon.

We tried getting him to drink water not too long ago but he couldn't. He just died a few minutes ago. :( Thank you for your help and concern though.

please secure your ducks we lose so many to our own dogs.

Brittany, I am so sorry for your loss. That is so very sad.

Amykins, she said they were going to keep a better eye on the dog. Accidents happen and dogs are just that, dogs. I think I read that you are afraid of dogs, and that is too bad. But many of us love our dogs and ducks and don't blame and animal for being an animal. The tone of your post made it sound as if you think she should dispose of the dog. That's not fair imo.
