RIP big red.

It had to be done. i needed to get fresh blood into the flock. he served his purpose very well and expanded a flock from 10 hens to over 30 in the last 2 years. a few of his sons are in another flock, so his line will continue.

i cooked him in the pressure cooker and made tortilla soup.

I culled 5 roos for the freezer Tuesday. 4 of them were 20 week old roos that momma hen raised and I never fooled with much. One was a pretty mixed breed roo that I hand raised. I hated to do it but his brother, also hand raised, is a much better roo to the girls so I did the deed. It sucked but I only have 10 hens and the rooster coop was getting crowded. I really need to stop getting attached to the guys because I know I can't keep them.
