Do ducks take longer to die than chickens?

Hi,

perhaps an odd question, but my husband noticed that the ducks take longer to go than the chickens we've butchered. We are slicing the jugular and letting them bleed out in a killing cone. He says the ducks take a lot longer to stop twitching and he takes of the head to make sure they are gone.

Any suggestions for us? Need to butcher about ten before the cold weather sets in for good.

Thanks.

Maybe because they are waterfowl? The thermodynamics of being in water often/diving along with the long distance flying would make for a fairly different cardiovascular system more geared towards retaining effective oxygenation of the blood I would imagine, Possibly causing the body system to "keep kicking" for longer?

I have no evidence for this theory, Just is what came off the top of my head.
