Chicks arriving on Saturday

This is my first time raising chicks, or keeping any chicken(though i do have goats). There are 30 of them, asst. brown layers. They are scheduled to ship from Ideal Thursday and arrive Saturday. I have an 8x10 brooder divided into 3 sections(they get the 1/3 of it until 4 weeks, 2/3 until 8 weeks, and 3/3 until 12 weeks then they move into their coop stall. I have something you add to their water, a feeder, waterer, chick starter from dumor, 2 bales of pine shavings, 250 watt lamp, and fresh clean water access. Is there anything that I need to know or am missing before i get them? Thanks.
 
Sounds like you are very prepared. I think you have everything you need. Just be ready to check and treat pasty butt. If they have, wash their vent and apply coconut oil. You may also want to add ACV of sugar to their water.

Thats good, I was just wondering if there was anything that I missed from reading online. I will surely be prepared to treat it if they get it. Thanks!
 
Welcome! You sound very organized! Make sure you've called or visited your post office to let them know the chicks are coming, and that you want to be called ANYTIME the minute they show up. Be cheerful about it, and plug in your heat lamp as you leave to pick them up. Have the waterer filled several hours before, so it isn't really cold. Enjoy! Mary
 
I kept mine indoors for the first three weeks, and just moved them to the unheated outbuilding this weekend. I thought the 250w heat lamp would easily keep them warm, but no. I had to put five moving blankets over the crate, and even add a second heat lamp, and the temp barely is warm enough, like 70F. I couldn't lower the heat lamps any further or the chicks would be rubbing up against them.
 
The chicks arrived early yesterday. There was one death, a black australop. The others are doing well, have good food and water. Thanks for the advice!
