Off her feed

Wow, so much to take in. But I really hope it's not e. Coli. I just don't know what I could do if it is. Their water is brought in direct line by pipes with those water nipples. Oh wait....they sometimes drink from our waterfall, that runs into our fish pond...I wonder if that could be it.
They like to stand in the water and cool their bodies down. I never even thought....does that sound like a likely place? Gah.....they love that.

Their pen is massive and is just jungle floor so it all gets scratched into the dirt. Their food is a sealed container that dispenses through PVC pipes and it just stays clean. If it's E. coli I bet it is the pond.....

But thank you for your kind words everyone, I know you've all been there. On the upside. We've had three legbars and 2 bielefelder just hatch. A few more on the way,
A bittersweet day.

For my hen that I buried, I planted a just sprouted coconut above her...so when the tree grows I will always think of her,

I am by no means an expert! This is all just stuff I've picked out of my Chicken Owners Manuals and it may not even apply to your situation. It's just my personal opinion on what may have happened, not a definitive conclusion

I myself had a hen with E.P. and she too passed - this was confirmed by our vet and since then the rest of the flock has been fine. It may have simply been something that she was susceptible to, and no matter how clean you keep things sometimes these things just happen.

Just try to keep things in as good an order as you can and if possible, start preparing now for anything that might crop up in the future. I love Enola's idea of getting a medicine chest ready just in case, and it's something I've been working on myself of late. So far I have a cocci treatment, a worming syrup, some poultry dust, some probiotics, and a vitamin supplement on hand, but in Australia it's hard to get hold of antibiotics without a vet order so I'm having difficulties with that.

At the end of the day, it may be something entirely different to Egg Peritonitis - we will never know for sure.

I hope you find a lot of joy in your new chickies- perhaps you could name one after your dear girl that you lost.
