Help! my hend suddenly stopped laying eggs

Hi all, nice to find home here to discuss.

I got 3 Isa brown here in melbourne this Oct . Jess is 19 month old now molting, other two 18 weeks old (joy & happy)
laying eggs after two week give me 1 each day for 2 week continuely.

All good but from 3 days ago (15 Nov) I got nothing at all. They eat well, free ranged as before,nice coop.

Weather is fine not very cold or hot.

Anybody have ideas why?

There are a number of reasons why chickens will stop laying. Molting (as you mentioned), inadequate lighting, improper nutrition, broodiness, illness, shock from a predator in the area or from a recent move or change in environment. You should examine each of these possibilities with regard to your hens. Also, is it possible that they may be laying in a hidden nest somewhere? A lot of members have posted that their hens have stopped laying, only to discover a hidden nest later (sometimes at a considerable distance from the nest boxes). Good luck in your hens laying again.

Glad you joined the flock! x2 the above. If you live in the Northern hemisphere, the shorter days could be a cause for the lack of eggs as well. Most hens need 14 hours of light per day to keep them in production.
 
Thank you all for quick response! Especially to Michael your detailed info.

The only thing changed is I put in another young bird in two weeks ago. But this does not stop them laying eggs. It is a week after I put in new bird before they stop laying eggs .

I also extend the free range area give tem more space.

Will keep an eye on it.

Hens can stop laying for a number of reasons. Temperature change, lack of light, bullying, lack of food, water or calcium, molting, etc. They also could be hiding their eggs if they free range.

Make sure they have either eggshells or oyster shells. These provide them the calcium their bodies need. An eggshell is roughly 94% calcium. They also need access to clean, fresh water and food.

Molting can also make them stop. This it the time of year when they lose and regrow their feathers. Give them lots of protien. Peas, meat scraps, mealworms, quinoa and cooked eggs all have protein.

Lack of light and temp change also contribute to egg production. Hens need 16 hours of light a day to lay eggs. They also lay best when the temps range from 50- 75 degrees.
 
Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You've gotten some good suggestions above. X3, if you have a couple of 5 month old ISA Browns that seem to have stopped laying, I would be checking very carefully for hidden nests.
