I had a blackstar rooster who was a pretty tough guy. He was in charge of the hens and was always good around the baby chicks. but he was mean to people and to any other rooster. He was about 2 years old when the temp here got around 100 -105 and he died. All the other chickens were fine but i think the heat killed him. he was healthy but he was also pretty big. about 8 - 10 lbs. can a large rooster that is young die from heat? is this uncommon?

Any bird can succumb to heat exhaustion. Especially ones who have hidden health issues from disease or wounds from fighting.

I have lost good birds to heat, did this summer. I had a brood rooster get out of a pen and start fighting through the fence with another rooster. I heard it and ran over and picked him up, put him back in a pen and gave him some fresh water. Checked a half hour later and he was deader than a door nail, and his body was still HOT. If this ever happens or if you think a bird is to hot you can dunk them a couple of times in a 5 gal bucket of water up to their head and they will cool down. Any degree of physical activity can cause this in high temps. I will agree though that it could have been any number of things.
