Hi,

So today, I noticed my Swedish duck of about 8-9 months finally looked like she was going to lay an egg! Yay!
I saw a medium sized egg-shaped lump near her rear end on her belly. She was walking funny It also looked like she was trying to push it out. I did a quick google search of what it looked like when a duck was about to lay an egg, and the picture matched perfectly to what I saw. However, this was about 7 hours ago. My duck still looks like she's trying to push what I believe to be an egg out now. Im concerned for her health. I think she might be in pain. If any experienced duck owners believe this is her trying to lay an egg, let me know. Also, do you think she's in pain? hope she's able to push it out.

Thanks so much!

Did she get the egg out?

If not, let her swim in a tub of lukewarm water for an hour or so.

She also may need more calcium in her diet. A quick way to get calcium into her would be to dissolve a calcium citrate tablet in water. I give my flock about 500 mg calcium citrate for ten of them per day when we start seeing soft eggs - that's 50 mg each.

I am not a vet, though. So you would want to verify that you are satisfied with that idea before trying it.

I do know that I have given a half teaspoon of 23% calcium gluconate liquid with a tablespoon of peas.
