Anyone have success crossing a heritage tom on a broad breasted white hen?

I have only raised heritage turkeys and have no experience with the broad breasted variety.

I am looking to add some meat to my flock of heritage mutt turkeys. I do have 4 purebred royal palm toms but the rest of my toms are half mutt and half wild turkey.

Do the broad breasted hens live long enough to breed?

Has anyone had fertile eggs from a broad breasted hen?

I know the broad breasted toms are to large to mate successfully.

Our neighbor got two hatches out of their BBB hen by their Bourbon tom. She was torn apart by a raccoon, while setting her clutch, during her 4th year. She was heavy and got around by waddling (pretty much) but that big Bourbon's wt. didn't lame her (lucky girl - to a point).

A BB hen shouldn't have any problems with a RP tom. Just make sure to separate out the breeding pair from all other toms.

Great news. Thank you for the reply. I will save one of the Royal Palm toms for breeding. Now I just have to hope someone puts up a BB white hen for sale or auction. Otherwise I will have to wait till a 2015 BB hen chick is mature enough in spring 2016. :-(
