We are going to NY for thanksgiving and don't want to ask our neighbors to have to let the chickens out and put them back in on thanksgiving day. We are leaving thanksgiving morning so they (the chickens) would be in the coop from wends. night to Friday morning. We are returning Sat. So our neighbor will let them out Friday and put them away. We have 16 hens and a rooster. Will they kill each other? Or will they be ok if given plenty of food and water.

Thank you and happy Thanksgiving!!:)

Food, water, and a well ventilated coop, should not have any problems.
This^^^^ AND a coop that is big enough for all those birds.

If they've never been confined, they won't be happy...so lots of room and maybe multiple feed/water stations would definitely help.

The coop is 4x10 with the add on nesting boxes and of course roosts. Thank you for all of your help! We also have two young Roos that we are putting in a small portable coop so the older roo doesn't hurt them when cooped up. Should we put some hens with them or leave them alone. They are brothers and get along fine so I'm not worried about them fighting amongst ech other. Again thank you very much for all your help.

IMO, 4x10 is not enough space for 17 birds to be confined in, especially birds that aren't used to being confined.

I'd leave the cockerels alone together, especially if they are of breeding age....adding some hens with them when the older rooster is not around to run interference will make for a competitive environment that could cause chaos for all involved.

I agree that sounds incredibly tight for that many birds. You can try it, but be prepared for some undesirable behaviors. I'd go heavy on boredom busters.

Ok, thank you. I have the two young roos separate so now there are only 15 in the other coop. I have tons of food and water and I am going to add some toys. I was hoping it would be ok since the sun rises so late and sets so early. its going to rain today too so they won't miss much. Thank you all for your help!
