Home made/raised feed

The website says black and brown . I would assume they are similar to the chickrns my father raised when I was small ..seems I recall 2 and somtimes 3 eggs per day per hen . When I asked him what they were he said "mutts" he is 76 and likley dosent recall

It sounds like, based on your description, that they are Black Sex Links. BSL hens are black with some brownish or copper colored feathers around the neck area. My Black Sex Links have been my best layers, churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. I've never gotten 3 eggs in a day from one of them, but I have occasionally gotten 2 eggs a day from a single hen. I also occasionally get double yolk eggs from them. Good luck with your flock.

Were the sex link chicks are high egg producers and the Mottled Houdans are not (aprox 1 egg per week) is what ive read online. Will the higher calcium required for eqq production harm the Mottled Houdan

Actually, the Mottled Houdans that I used to raise typically gave me 2 eggs per week. Either way though, the calcium levels suitable for sex links will not harm the Houdans. If you keep some crushed oyster shell out for your hens in a separate container, they will only eat it whenever they need it.
