I just hatched out 7 chicks. 2 died and have 6 eggs that have not had any activity in eggs. I have 5 fluffy chicks in brooder, but I don't think that leaving chicks incubator after hatch is such a good idea because they knock other eggs around. I think that whay my hatch is not as good as I expected or would of liked to see. I was pretry good about turning. day 18 when I went into lock down. btw little giant incubator, no turner. I did turn 3 times a day, temp stayed 99 to 100 whole time. I just think there has be better way to keep eggs from moving when other chick r fluffing up in incubator. any suggestions if I do it again? btw first timer, any info would b appreciated!

Sorry to hear you had such a bad hatch. In my experience the hatched chicks knocking the unhatched eggs around does not do them any harm. There are a number of incubation issues, beside temp and humidity, that can affect hatch rates and failures. See here for more details:

Fingers crossed you'll have a more successful hatch next time!

Hi :welcome
Glad you joined the flock! Sorry you didn't have a very good hatch. I too don't think eggs being knocked should have an affect on the hatch. If you really want to try stopping the knocking of eggs you could hatch in cut down egg cartons. I personally like the method but others don't its personel preference. Good links there for you from sumi they are a great read and full of usefull information.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your future incubating, enjoy BYC :frow

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I agree with Sumi here, it is not the banging around of the eggs that causes a bad hatch. It is usually some issue with the incubation process, bad eggs or a dirty incubator. In nature, chicks are always knocking eggs around as they are hatching. Dying at hatch is from something genetic, toxic or improper humidity or temps during the incubation cycle. I am sorry you are having so many issues.
