I got a RIR Roo from a fellow BYC member. He is a beautifully behaved 7 month old. I was sitting having coffee with my husband this morning and at 8:20 we heard his first crow. What a wonderful sound. He was so proud of himself. You could see it in his stance. It was a beautiful sight as well as sound. Naturalness at is best. How long we will think this way about his crowing is up in the air but for today we were enjoying it. Thank You Lonetengu. He is a wonderful addition here.

That's so cool! Glad you have a roo you're happy with. Have a great day!

I was worried about having a Roo too(because of my neighbors), i ended up with 2 silkie boys...i just couldn't part with them...turns out all my neighbors are early risers and love the crowing... they made a point to tell me so i wouldn't get rid of them :) Now i'm raising silkies and every morning i wake up, listening for them to tell me to come unlock their coops..... i still love to hear them crow :) there is nothing more peaceful ...sitting with a hot cup of coffee watching your chickens free ranging in your spent garden....dreaming about next springs garden plans :)

You're so lucky. I'd never get away with a roo here.

The ones I did have, I had to re-home them. Living in the suburbs, that's the way it has to be, right? Enjoy them!

I did get lucky....because it was definitely not planned :) I've also read some pretty sad stories on here about neighbors fighting to the point one woman wrote in asking advice... worried her neighbor was going to do harm to her chickens... all over a Rooster named Spock :) boy did i get lucky

Spock...now that's a case for the books! I think he's famous around here.

I wish more people would just give the roos a chance. The sound is so enjoyable if your a early riser. In our house we never have to worry now if the power goes out and the alarm does not go off. Just one more upside to having a roo. Seriously though they are a beautiful part of nature. Everything has its upside if you look for it. I feel sorry for all the cranky people out there. They miss so many of lifes blessings.

Once someone said to me 'i didn't realize i was unhappy, until i realized i was mad at the birds singing'
