I had such great results on my first two large hatches and now having trouble on a small hatch of 12 cream leg bar eggs that I had shipped. One chickk I found dead in the egg. It had pipped before I went to sleep and woke up to it not moving at all.

Now, I have a chick who has hatched but doesn't look 'done' all the way!? It's stomach is like a kind of see through ball and he is still kind of attached to a little bit of yolk in the egg. He is very weak. What should I do? I took a pic and will try to post from my phone in the comments. :(

So I can't get a good pic without opening the hatcher. His abdomen looks swollen up like a ball! He is still alive laying on his back chirping some. Still very weak. Can someone tell me what to do? I'm on my phone and cannot seem to find the hatching thread that lists the problems and actions you should take.

A pic would be helpful but I would leave him in the incubator until the yolk looks fully absorbed. I've been reading a lot of people are having trouble with CCL's lately

This is the best I could get. It's just so sad! I wish I could do something to help. The bit of yolk I saw before is gone. This very swollen lower abdomen seems to be the problem and he can't turn over :((

There's not much that can be done but down in the 'treatments' section it has some advice. I had a chick like this once and it didn't make it. I don't think his chances are very good. I'm sorry.

Thank you Sustained! That is what I needed. It's exactly what this little guy has

I still have 4 more eggs in there. Wondering if I should take him out and put him in a separate little basket in the brooder??

Are any of your other eggs pipped? It's a judgement call you'll have to make if they are. Anytime I take chicks out before the others are done I take the bator in the bathroom real quick (very carefully of course) and turn on a hot shower until the room temp is fairly close to the bator and humidity is the same or just slightly above your incubator. Then quickly take the chick out and close it back up. I haven't had any issues doing it this way but it's a pain and some would just go the quick route and grab him out. Entirely up to you what you do. You really don't want any other chicks pecking his distended belly though. I hope he makes it!

I would Not open the incubator for No reason. He stands a better chance in it---He is probably not going to make it any how, but anything can happen----I would not risk causing problems with the others.

Well, I did end up taking him out. The other eggs were not pipped yet. The info made it seem that since it was bacterial that it could affect the others if the hatched on the infected areas. :( I put him in the brooder inside of his own basket. I dipped his beak in the nutrient rich water a few times and he seemed really be thirsty. Hoping he makes it somehow. This is the not - fun part of hatching. Thanks for the help. I will update in the morning.
