I have started a project for myself. There will be a few culls that I will sell off. I'm not really trying to start a new breed or anything just trying to roll my two favorite breeds into one. Naked Necks and Easter Egger/Ameraucana.

I started out with:
400

And:
400

And got only one pullet:
400

On October 2nd I hatched out a batch if 14 chicks from 3 hens and the Salmon colored NN rooster posted above.
Here are the hens from the second hatch:

I will start posting the pictures in the next few posts.

These are the 9 out of the 13 that lived from the October 2, 2014 hatch.

Cockeral. Wheaten Duckwing Splash.

Cockeral. Golden Duckwing. Watcher for sure one of the biggest.

Cockeral, Blue Salmon Duckwing. Another watcher. Nice small bib and lots of naked breast exposed.

Cockeral. Blue Salmon Duckwing.

Pullet. Blue Mahogany Duckwing.

Pullet. Calling Silver Duckwing. I don't think she will be true silver though, no salmon color on the breast.

Pullet. Wheaten Duckwing Splash.

Continuing to watch for changes they grow fast. Currently they are as of Thanksgiving Day, 8 weeks old.

Nice, lots of pea combs good chance for green eggs.

Yes all look like they have pea combs, but the pullets that turned out NN their look like they are modified. They almost look single but can see what looks like the other rows in a pea.

I wish you good luck on the project.  It sounds very interesting.

Thanks Hellbender.
I 'm hoping that others that are breeding these will come along and post more pictures so that I can see what everyone is raising.
I also like reading the thoughts of all and anyone too.

Naked Necks are really pretty good birds at laying and for fairly descent sized meat bird.
Although my current hens aren't as good layers as I've had in the past. They're descent.
They (S & G Poultry) have better sized birds for meat birds. One day I'm going to try to order some of theirs to add size to mine. Mine are just common hatchery birds. I'm not really knocking hatcheries because they are the source of most of my chickens over the years.

Check out the Naked Neck thread. Lots of knowledgeable folks there.

Subscribing also. I love some of the colors...

I used to have a lot of colored egg NN but with single combs. Right now its only one old hen- her eggs are a nice blue color.. hatched two sons from her, hope they got the colored egg gene from her.
