I might give that a try in the spring. Thanks for the info. My first project is going to be the solar panel I think. I still have to finish shingling the back of the coop too and I've been thinking of expanding their run. There are always more and more projects! hahaha

Tha is way to cool. Im totally off grid myself also. And run solar panels. Nice too know its afordable to make a good all year round breeding coop. For norther folks. Being in canada this has to be the neatest set up ive seen for our climates. Alot of neat designs just wont work up here. (like my dome pens i invested in this spring. Great for summer. But come winter. Ow boy!)
 
Now that we've had cold weather for a while, how is your system working? Are you getting enough sun to keep everything going? Before posting, I reread through a couple pages and this time "caught" what you were doing about lighting. I don't know if you coop your chickens at night, but a lot of people increase the light time by adding it unto the beginning of the day (earlier am) rather than at the end, so the chickens get the slower diminishing light as a signal to go to roost for the night and aren't just suddenly in the dark. This has been a great thread.
 
I am also interested in an update and how things are working.
I have started making wheat grass fodder for my chickens to supplement their food as we have had snow on the ground and every spring the chickens look a little sickly, so I am trying to avoid that this year.

Looks Great, May I ask where you bought the solar panel? That is the thing that makes this overbudget for me as I cant find 230 watt for near the price you list.
