I've never killed anything before. Today I had to end my first quail life...and it sucked. I *think* I did OK with the fast and humane part, but he was my first coturnix (not only to kill, but to hatch and raise), and I'm a bit more sad than I anticipated. This gets easier, right?

Some people adapt do culling the animals in their care and some do not. Either way your compassion is to commended. Ending a life without thought or care is not a good thing. Even food animals deserve a word of thanks for their sacrifice.

For me it has gotten easier. The fist ones were pretty hard. But I look at it this way. My birds have a nice life, when it comes time to cull some I do it quickly and humanely which is a better end than most of us will get.

The first time took a day or two to get over it; I was surprised by the convulsions. Now I can put down a few dozen at a time and it seems normal.
