Hi, does anyone have a favorite hatchery that they would like to share with me? Because the last time we got chicks from tractor supply co., half of the chicks died. We had electro lights/ vitamins in the water and we gave them a mix of medicated feed and some oat meal. So back to my original question does anyone have a favorite hatchery in Wisconsin?

The one we've used is Murray McMurray and had a very good experience with them. A friend of mine swears by Meyers. You'll probably find that opinions on hatcheries are as varied as opinions on anything else. Ideal, MyPetChicken and Cackle Hatcheries are also mentioned frequently here on the boards.

One thing I won't recommend to anyone is getting chickens through Craigs List. While some people have had good luck getting nice birds that way, we had a terrible experience going that route. We lost 4 out of 7 chicks in a 2 week period and it was heartbreaking. The seller also misrepresented the age of the chicks and breed (accidently or on purpose, who knows). We were 1st time chicken owners and that was not a good intro to birds.

Purely Poutry (https://www.purelypoultry.com/) and Abendroth's Hatchery (http://abendrothshatchery.com/index.html) are both located in Wisconsin. I haven't personally purchased chicks from either one, but I have priced them at both and Abendroths is very reasonably priced. The nearest hatchery to you that I have personally purchased chicks from is Murray McMurray (https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/index.html) and I have been happy with both their birds and service. My personal favorite hatchery among the four hatcheries I have purchased chicks from on multiple occasions is Dunlap Hatchery (https://www.dunlaphatchery.net/). They are smaller than the other three (a family run hatchery), but the folks there are very friendly and helpful, and I love their birds and service. I have never lost a single chick in shipping from Dunlap (I can't say that about the other three). Whatever hatchery you end up using, good luck with your flock.
 
We really like Cackle Hatchery. Chicks from Cackle have always arrived happy and healthy, and we like the fact that you can watch videos on their website of their actual flocks. Some hatcheries have pictures in their books that don't quite match up with what the breed standard calls for. Though we don't order from hatcheries for show birds, we still expect them to be characteristic of their breed.
