They are adorable ♡♡ I moved my paint Silkies to the hatcher yesterday, late D17..glad I did bc woke up to one pip this morning and a second by 1pm..My incu has been set on the same temp and all my thermometers agree that it's not changed, but this make the 2nd hatch that's been early. I would understand if they were all banties but I had EEs in the last hatch and one of them was the 1st out. I turned it down a hair anyways..figure cooler is better than hotter..

Hope that your party today is a success!! We had a cookout at my mom's yesterday, and my grandpa brought a frame thing he made for my mom's truck..he likes tinkering and building and it's about all his mind can handle these days. As soon as I saw the frame I thought 'chicken pen', so he's building me a couple. My son is trying to convince my mom that she needs a couple chickens..I sold her on SweetPDZ yesterday and she doesn't even have any animals she could use it for..lol..
My daughter will be the one that moves out of state for some high profile career in fashion or something..my son is the one that will make a life out of farming like his mama .
That's what I LOVE about BYC. .so many good people and so many ideas to share.. I'm on a heritage RIR thread and a very sweet woman has been sharing her incubator and brooder set up with me, so I shared my heating pad hen and although she's been brooding for years , she liked the idea. I recommend it to everyone of course..lol..
I did get the hatcher sterilized after almost an hour of working to get it clean..those ruptured yolks are nothing to play around with..between that and the one chick that I had to put down bc of the bloody lump, my hatcher was awful..I honestly didn't think it was coming clean. My paint Silkies are due to go to the hatcher tomorrow and then I have 2 GL/Tolbunt splits that were the only starts out of 8 eggs and they will move to the hatcher next week if they make it that long (Im not holding my breath)..but after that I have a few of my girls in there and my peafowl that are on Day 2..my second group of Tolbunts ship tomorrow..if I actually find any Gold Laced Polish eggs I will be buying those and I have plans for some chocolate Silkies and heritage RIR then hopefully I'll be done for the year..yeah right..lol

Thank you, it was a success.. good food, great company, nice sunny day. Couldn't have asked for more

My son would like to move his little family on some acreage and start some farming but alas, he married himself a city girl, Love my DIL to pieces, she is a wonderful Mother, excellent wife to our son and just a great person to be around. Solid morals and values.. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect DIL... Except... She does not like anything to do with farming, wont even eat a fresh egg

My daughter although likes the thought of farming loses interest to quickly, I always get scared if we leave town or go away for an evening and leave her here to take care of things.. She does things at her pace which is typically about lunchtime lol

Got the incubator sterilized and dried and moved the next set of eggs into it this afternoon.. Next lockdown is Thursday morning...
Was also able to candle broody turkey eggs, out of 18 eggs 13 looked really good, took the other five in the coop where it is darker to candle again, two clears but 3 that had good veining and movement (looks to be around 7 days) noticed a hen that had been in the nest flat on an egg all day , ( she had hatched a clutch in January).. Looked and the three eggs and then at her and yup you guessed it, did a little slide of hands and now she has three nice fat Turkey eggs to incubate..

I love the earlys, they also seem to be the strongest.

Lol, I say it way too often..but I can not wait to have some broodies..oh imagine all the extra eggs I can get..
and yes, I've never really had any this early before..late 19 early 20s but not 18s..but the last hatch that came early, those chicks are definitely the healthiest and strongest of the bunch..
here are a few of my babies with their new family

These are all eggs I ordered and hatched and these guys didn't fit into any of my plans so they get to live it up on a friends farm as a mixed flock of pretties..lol

A storm just hit, I'm hoping there won't be a power outage. The chicks are due to hatch on the 29th.

Hope your power stayed on. I hate seeing a storm on the radar..I have 2 drawers from an old dresser with insulation on the inside and just enough room to squeeze an incubator inside. .I had a scare a while back and got prepared afterwards
