Glad it made sense It took me a few times to make sense, too. I knew nothing about chickens and was confused by all the different types of feed.

Azure does ship a few items via UPS, I didn't realize the feeds were one of them. Most of Azure's business is through "drop points"...which is a location near you...might be a parking lot or someone's garage. Azure then delivers to the drop point and you must meet them there at a specific day and time to pick up your order. It's less convenient than receiving via UPS, but way cheaper in terms of shipping. You probably will need to pay a small feed (we usually pay $7-11) to the delivery guy. Look at their site, if you're into natural/organic foods at all, they have a LOT of options at very good prices. You do need to make a $50 minimum order and your drop point (other customers are involved) must have a mimimum order of I think $1500. Our drop point has never had an issue of not meeting the minimum order. It takes a bit more forethought in terms of ordering, but oh so worth it, imo. You could buy several bags of feed at once, will have met your minimum order and will be set on feed for a while.

Even looking up local feed stores all I get is supplies for dogs and cats. Where I live, people like to put dogs in diapers and dresses.

The azure drop off locations are also an hour+ away. Paying just the bridge toll is $6. I'll still do more research to see what's the most economical options.

How big is your flock again?

If its only a few birds, you probably don't want to buy and store more than a bag at a time. SnP feeds have all have a date stamp on them (date it was milled) and I'm not sure the expiration on them, but my guess is probably 6 months, under ideal conditions (cool, dry, dark).

There is also an organic feed thread somewhere that has a big list of feed stores that carry organic feeds. Surely there are others in San Francisco raising chickens? I think even NiftyChicken is from there (owner of BYC).

As MeepBeep pointed out, you will get MUCH better responses, more quickly, if you change your profile to list where you are from. Even "California" says a lot. You'd be amazed at how many times people get frustrated with each other, one person not understanding why their suggestion won't work for another person, only to find out that one person is from Hawaii and the other is from northern Ontario. Climate and location makes a big difference.

I found a mill in CA that provides to local-ish feed stores. I think that's my best bet because honestly, I don't wanna feed my chickens the Purina brand.

I have a small flock. Only 7 birds. I plan on buying a 50lb bag each time. That would be like 1.5-ish months worth since I will feed scratch and spent grains.
