Dogs killed my sweet chickens

The issue with this approach is that it does not protect the birds from the next predator that comes along. I am not opposed to the elimination of problem predators, but it is only a bandaid to the bigger problemf.

I agree in that it will not protect the hens from a predator. I disagree on the definition of a predator though. If one or two hens are lost due to an animal taking them for food that is one thing, unpleasant but acceptable. Two dogs eliminating an entire flock is not for food but rather for the thrill of the kill. The dogs, if their owner cannot be located, should be eliminated. It is indeed a bandaid but one that is necessary. I gain no joy from the killing of dogs or cats or other animals but I refuse to let them simply walk away after taking the lives of chickens that most of us consider pets.

My dog in my yard is a pet, another dog in my yard is a pest to be removed.

Exactly - eliminating the dogs doesn't address the real problem - the coop isn't secure.

Get your own bigger dogs, nothing comes near our house with three pitbulls an english bulldog and a nervous chihuahua that sounds off every time an acorn falls .

We are for sure going to rebuild our coop this spring. I don't want to have an issue like this again. I want it to be as sturdy as we can make it. I'm going to Fort Knox that sucker!!!!

I'd call animal control to come pick them up. I think I would have a hard time killing a dog, even if it did kill my chickens.

If animal control is an option, by all means - call them. Where I live, it's not. (Honestly I'd have a hard time killing a dog myself, but my husband would do it)
