My 41/2 year old light brahma hen's left eye is sort of fluttering open and shut. Most of the time she will keep is shut. Then, she will open it up, and then close it. That has happened since 4:30 pm or so, because I didn't see them until I came home. My sister let them out to roam this morning, and said she were fine. Her right eye is clear and doesn't appear to have any problems. She's been acting normally, it's just her left eye. She is also eating/drinking and responding. Her physical appearance is also ok. Should I be aware of something? Please try to answer as I am new here and would love if you could help. Thanks.

It sounds like her eye could be irritated from dust/dirt/ ammonia odor or from pecking. There are some respiratory diseases and other problems that can affect the eyes, such as infections or even a neurological disease. An eye drop for lubrication, saline, or Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel would all be good thing s to try. I would check the eye every day just to make sure something is not missed than could be in the eye or irritating it. Eye infections sometimes can cause cataracts.

thanks for answering! is this a fixable problem? i'm really attached to her b/c she is very loyal & cute, so I want to help her as much as possible. Do you suggest I put a drop of it into her eye? And how can I do it? She is squirmy and doesn't like being carried. Thanks so much again! :)
