Hello, my chickens died in a 100% enclosed cage... Here is the design:
A chainlink fence going 3 ft in the ground and 2 above. A door but its not 'easy' to get in.
But.... What's been happening is strange it's just a hole throught the chickens, usually where the head was...
Please Help :(

Oh, and I live in California.

We're glad to have you.

I'm sorry for your loss! I would definitely check out the Predators and Pests section.

So sorry for your losses. Chain link, unfortunately, does little to prevent most common predators from getting at birds - either by reaching through the fence or even just going right through the openings (you'd be amazed the size of animal that can fit through those holes). You mention it is two feet above ground - so that is the entire height of the enclosure or is there additional fencing above that level that makes the enclosure taller than that 2 feet? Is the tarp the only thing on the top and how is it attached to the enclosure?

X2.

And,

I'm sorry for your loss. Ol Grey Mare asks some good questions. Knowing the answers may help with knowing what happened. But regardless, read up on the links you were given to find out how to keep various predators from hurting your chickens.

Welcome to BYC. I'm glad you decided to join our flock. I'm sorry for the loss of your chickens. The other members have given you some good advice regarding predators. There is also a good article on Predator Proofing Your Chickens at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2013/07/11-tips-for-predator-proofing-chickens.html. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in protecting your flock.
