Hello all,
I have been raisng pheasants now for a while but have had very big problems with all kinds of predators being attracted to my flight pen.
So my quewstion is this,
Can i put some guinea fowl with my pheasants to alert me at night when an unwelcome predator is snooping around my pen? I know guineas are excellent watch dogs in the daylight but what about after dark?

Guineas are pretty much blind at night and are very vulnerable to predators when it's dark.
They will alert you to problems thru the day tho.

I think i will try it out, a big group of pheasants tends to attract the attention of every predator in the county it seems like. . . so even if they only call in the daytime it would still help out

In my experience, if something is amiss in the guineacoop the guineas wont hesitate from screaming their butts off in complete darkness. I had to run out several times in the middle of the night, sometimes I couldnt even find anything in the coop which led me to suspect it might have been a lizard or mouse coming for the food. They sure will let you know if something is getting them but if its just a predator coming to watch them then they wont be able to see it and will stay silent unless they hear it.

All the best of luck to you.

Haha that was just the answer i was looking for. I think this might be a good use of a couple of guineas
