Dishwasher incubator?

Has anyone ever made one? Our dishwasher died, has since been replaced and the old one is still sitting on my porch. I'd like to do something with it, rather than throwing it away and thought it might make a good incubator! I Googled "how to make a dishwasher incubator" and not much came up. I would like it to be as hands free as possible. So, any ideas? I've never made any kind of bator, and currently use a Little Giant, so I'd like to step up a bit :)
 
I also have a dead dishwasher, and of course my first thought was "how can I use this for chickens"! We're gonna give it a go!
 
Im going to try this out too. my heater element still works so I hope I can use that. I hope to just add water as needed for humidity using the dishwasher plumbing and control temp with a water heater thermostat. i was planning on making just a hatcher but I have a couple of gqf egg turners so who know where this may lead.
 
Pull out racks, great ventilation, waterproof... I'm thinking lamp, fan, turners, thermostat... Probably less than 50 bucks to convert...now you have me thinking funkyisyourchix!
 
so I just went out for a looksee and got started. I thought I better get rid of all the little spikes that hold the dishes. I tried the grinder, cutters but in the end just wiggling them back and forth til they break worked best. a quick touch up with the grinder after that smoothed them off planning to add some 1/4" mesh all round tomorrow.

I figured I'd just leave the "spikes" on the rack, I was thinking I'd move the eggs down at lockdown, but now I think they should come off and I should put some rubber shelf liner down instead. My DH is still thinking the dishwasher bator over, but I think we're gonna give it a go too!
I'm getting giddy just imagining all of the eggs I can stuff into that thing (especially if he adds a third rack like he's planning) :celebrate
 
I like the idea of a third rack, maybe just securing it to the top one so they both slide out together instead of having to rig another "drawer"...Im on the fence about using it for hatching, might require more mods for chick safety, plus I'd be changing humidity, etc,would be harder to have staggered hatches...
Are y'all just drilling ventilation holes into the metal sides?
 
My sides are plastic but I guess I will have to do something about ventilation. normally my poor carpentry skills leave just enough cracks and holes for ventilation to be ok. I am glad you mentioned chick safety, Eleda. It got me thinking the 1/4 inch mesh might be too big for baby feet. I went with some heavy duty fly screen and some old PVC fence to make a prototype top tray

Now for the crazy idea of the day. instead of a 3rd shelf I am thinking MEGAFAN. It fits perfectly between the 2 racks but only trying it out will tell if there is such a thing as too much airflow
 
I like how you made the shelf almost its own incubator. It'll probably be a little dry & windy with that big a fan...it would be a perfect shelf though if you took off the blades :)
