The Big Fat Is This A Rooster? Thread

Peppercorn does look like a roo to me. Acorn may possibly be one too. I can't speak for all the others.

I was afraid of that. :( Acorn is one of my favorites.
I have also noticed some of them play-fighting? Flying at eachother and flapping. Is this strictly a baby rooster thing, or will pullets do it too?

That's a pretty good sized comb & very defined comb points. If it was mine I would be inclined to think roo. On the attitude issue its hard to say, I had 2 BCM hens and they were the bossiest hens I've ever had, they got rehomed. Maybe someone with a little more experience will pipe in. Good luck!

The verdict: rooster! Saddle and hackle feathers started coming in, first crow at 9.5 weeks. The comb and wattles really popped out at 5 weeks. Here's what he looked like later on. He's going to be A local family's 4H project and he'll father some olive Eggers.

All of my chickens have been doing a certain amount of flapping and squaring off, but the two roosters seemed to always be at it, even before it was obvious that they were roosters. Just one more thing to add to your list of things to look for! It seems like comb and wattles: not definitive. Big personality: not definitive. Upright posture: not definitive. All three? Pretty definitive.

Yup, pretty sure he's a HE. Male coloration is coming in and his comb and waddles have gotten much more defined and red.

Aw, gangly little guy. What a cutie. Are you going to keep him?

I haven't decided yet. It's going to depend pretty strongly on weather or not the no-crow collar works on him. I live in a neighborhood and I want to be courteous to my neighbors, but at the same time if I was going to keep any roosters he would be it. He's so cute and sweet.

Pair of Icelandic chicks about 5-6 weeks old. Cleaning the cage so thought I would get a few pictures. They are a flighty pair and interesting. Not sure of their sex.
