Gabby -- our St. Bernard cross -- saved my DH's life, has been the poster dog for Heritage DNA, is an ambassador of dog park friendliness and can render an "I'm going to eat you" warning to interlopers when necessary. So, no, not a roach.... Just a pretty cool dog.
Yep I have had dogs for 55 years. My Rosie was the figure head for my truck like on a ship. She would stand or lay on the center console and keep a watchful eye as I went down the road. She had a little nest in the back seat where she could disappear when we went to the grocery store. ON cool days only. so no one could see her. But if they messed with the truck she gave em what for. I had to call her off the Guy who was trying to unload groceries for me.... Thats how i found out.
Yet one word from me and she would stand down. and the was a simple word No spoken in conversational tone. Or No Dogs. That was her cue to stop doing what she was doing.
I rescued her from a kill shelter at about two years of age. Back turned to the world she knew her time was up. All the other dogs lolled at us and begged, but ignored us in the interaction yard. As a last minute choice I asked to see the little brindle dog in cage six. The brought her out... she sniffed my feet and legs and sat down on my foot and looke up.
That was it ... we had her for fifteen years. I still so miss her. Shes been gone now about four.
