I love to skate ski! Does any one else here like to? Well, this is an over-all thread for the sport, but feel free to include these things:

Skier stats
Equipment stats
Waxing tips
Skiing tips
Race tips.
Summer-exercise tips.

Thanks!

I used to skate ski before a football injury ended my "career." Blew up my knee senior year of high school in '92 covering a blocked field goal. Was all-state 10K and 50k in '91-92 and went to the Olympic biathalon training camp in WI that winter. My shooting was good enough but my skiing not quite there. I also skied the Birkebeiner and Mora Vassalopet a couple times.

My knee couldn't take skating for a few years and I wasn't good enough at classical. I still ski classic, but hung up my skate skis forever.

As far as tips, although I'm sure mine are a bit dated. Buy the lightest gear you can afford. In skating your skis spend a lot of time off the ground and even an ounce heavier will fatigue you rapidly and make your form lazy and inefficient.

Follow the best waxing advice you can find on the Internet. Listen to the Norwegians. Cheap wax is not the way to go. A little lasts a long time, buy the good stuff.

In training, in addition to the usual intensive cardio, don't neglect your arms and abs. These are important muscles for skate skiing. I used roller skis and would deliberately punish myself up steep hills on hot humid days.
