Do Silkie roosters tend to be aggressive?

After reading many stories of nasty roosters, I'm beginning to doubt my decision to keep one - I have two small children and would like to let my hens and rooster free range if it is safe. Are Silkie roosters likely to get nasty? He is only about 5 or so months old so far, and is showing no signs of agression. He will get between me and his girls when I come near the pen, but if I reach in or come into the pen he runs from me. Is there a way to keep him from becoming aggressive?

What has always worked for me is handling. Pick him up and just carry him around. Don't put him down unless he's relaxed. My roo was a nasty little thing (bantam cochin) but after picking him up and loving on him, he's not nasty like that anymore. In fact, he'll run from me because he doesn't want me picking him up and doting on him in front of his ladies!!
Much better than him sticking a spur in my shin!

) was a nasty little guy who was re-homed.
 
I have one silkie rooster who hates my shoes and attacks them relentlessly. All of the others that I have had were pretty nice. He is a pic of the Shoe Slayer attacking my feet.

One of my other silkie roosters is a lap chicken and never crows. Unfortunately, he has a progressively worsening neuro problem. He always had trouble walking, but now he tips over when he is just sitting, often face first!

Of my original 4 chickens 3 were silky hens and one was a Roo....beautiful guy and quite friendly with people. He had never been aggressive before but nearly killed the neighbors roo. That other roo was quite a bit larger than him too. I ended up rehoming the silky just in case. But last I knew he was still good with people and mostly other chickens too. Just seemed that when he took a notion to kick butt it didn't matter who was in the way ...he just kicked it.
 
HI,I HAVE A SILKIE COCKERAL AND I WOULD NEVER PART WITH HIM HE IS TOTALLY GORGEOUS AND SO FRIENDLY,MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER PICKS HIM UP ALL THE TIME AND HE LETS HER,THE ONLY TIME HE WAS AGGRESSIVE WAS WHEN I HAD ANOTHER SILKIE I GOT THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME AND THEY BOTH TURNED OUT TO BE COCKS SO I CHOOSE THE FRIENDLY ONE TO KEEP BUT NEVER SINCE HAS HE BEEN ANY TROUBLE HE'S A REAL PLEASURE TO HAVE!!!
 
I think the answer is try it out do alot of handling and see how it goes, you may absolutly love your rooster, my silkie roo is sweet as can be doesn't love to be picked up that much and he's a lil of a duhhh?? if you know what i mean but we love him!

i have a silky rooster that is around a year and half he is so sweet he is never aggressive my daughter sits on the porch and he sits on her lap for hours i do have to admit he is a bit of a wimp the hens are so mean to him that he needed his own house and pen cant let him free range with the girls because the 3 of them gang up on him and tryy to kill him i did pair him up with a bantum girl and they are lovin it we just had 5 chicks hatch and they are soooo cute
