Natural wood Roosts, heights and angles ?

The hen house is ready for da girls! Some of the weekends work.

Paint drying on the Poo & Roost, will be filled with the PDZ stuff everyone seems to be using. Will be placed in front of nest boxes so the girls can see inside.

Looking inside from nest top access door.

Three 12 x 16" condos for the girls.

Not happy about the new watering can, don't think I spilled that much water when I filled it. Coop 4 x 4'

Nest boxes.

Run access door, two latches to keep the Raccoons out.

Moved the coop close to the house so we can keep a close eye on whats going on at first. Later in the season, I'll drag it (Wheel Horse garden tractor) to back of our 2/3rd acre lot.

Had to make the ramp pretty steep to fit, do you thinks it's too steep and I may need to make a switch-back type so I can take some angle out of it?

Thanks for everyone's help, cannot think of a better place to learn what we need to get our backyard chicken setup ready. Now the fun part, chicken (pullets) purchase! We're leaning to a couple easter eggers, a BO, and maybe a Wyandott but we could change our mind once we get a look at sellers flock.

Nice work. I think the ramp should do just fine. My gals used to have a raised coop and did not mind the steep ramp.
For me the Wyandottes are a pain. They like to bully my other hens and pull the beards of the EE. They are pretty but kind of mean. At least all the ones I have ever had have been.
BO are a nice hen. Mellow and not mean. I really like my Black Australorp though. Nice even temperament, super layers, pretty, quiet and a great pleasure to have.
Two latches are a good idea. Don't want no stinkin coons getting them gals.

I use a simple dog water dish and it works wonderfully. I put it up on blocks to discourage shavings being kicked into it. You can weight the dish with a brick if you are worried about it getting tipped too. I think I paid like 5 dollars each for mine. Been using them for 4 years with no issues. They are still really easy to wipe out too.

Charger is a bit protective of hers lol.

Canby - one of my very favorite things about having chickens has been the tweaking!! I love to do a weekend hen project, and we've done many of them as we figured out what worked best for us (and our spoiled, spoiled hens!!) Glad to see you are relaxed about figuring it out and changing it up!!

21hens - after 4 years and testing every hen watering system there is, the winner at our coop is the plain rubber feed pan (like a dog bowl). The ladies prefer it hands down, and it is way easier for me. I keep a heated one in the coop (during winter), and a big one in the run year round.

The "indoor" water bowl in the back - it sits up on a concrete block
The ladies can easily jump up and down from their 3' lower perch, but they MUCH prefer to use the ramp. And a happy hen makes a happy me!

The outside "waterer"

Nest boxes are another one of those things I've designed 100 times - this has been the longstanding preference (well, other than a bale of hay in the hay barn - apparently no nest box known to man can compete with a bale of hay)
