Pasture Model

At 50 hens per acre, the pasture thrives except

right around the houses

At 200 hens per acre, pasture will be destroyed

Thanks, Matt! That pdf and also his website/blog was some very enjoyable reading.

As to your quote of 50/200 hens per acre thriving/destroyed...it appears to me after reading Mr. Plamadon's pdf, that he does not rotate pasture. He simply moves the hen houses a few times a year. A different scenario than from the OP, who intends to rotate his flock to different sections of pasture.

If you haven't read that PDF, I recommend it. Or go to his website plamondon.com. He has a good blog and posts his email address. If I were in your shoes, I'd contact Mr. Plamondon because he has been doing it for a while. Not sure if you'd get a response, but he seems like the kind of guy who might.

Also, if you read my previous note, the thrives at 50 and dies at 200 may not apply to your situation, because the Plamondon guy is not rotating pasture, but you would. He also is sharing the pastured hens with ruminants (goats and sheep, I believe), again not your situation.
