Ok...I just got a 1266 Incubator with automatic turner and Brooder. I paid $150 for both...and I think it was a good deal? However, I know nothing about them and although I have been researching like crazy...I am still confused and have a few questions.

First for background...Each unit has a wafer thermostat in the back/middle portion of the incubator and an electronic thermostat model # 3140 110 volt ac/400W near the front of the incubator. They have a fan in the back of the incubator. see pics

I found how to set the temperature on the incubator and brooder by first setting the wafer thermostat to 102 F...which I did on both units then setting the electronic thermostat to about 99 to 100 F...which I did on the Incubator but it appears the Brooder's electronic thermostat is broken as I cannot get it to lower the temp to 99-100 F..

So...what heats the incubators? Is it the electronic thermostat or something on the fans....or these porcelain insulators https://www.gqfmfg.com/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=115 ? I see these in the back of both the brooder and incubator.. see pics

I want to replace the existing thermostats with an electronic thermostat and am thinking something like this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F05UI8O...lid=35XFS9S38OYHE&coliid=I3O5TD3HZ8675X&psc=1 .

So...as my brooder is no longer heating ... or at least appears to be only controlled by the wafer thermostat? with electronic thermostat broken?...what heats my incubator and brooder? I assume the old broken electronic thermostat is not a heater and could just be replaced with the above electronic one as opposed to spending $85 from GQF to get a replacement non-digital thermostat? https://www.gqfmfg.com/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=149 I really do want a digital thermostat..as it would be easier to set and maintain..

I hope this is not confusing...but I don't want to spend a bunch of money for something I don't want... or need. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Ok...I did some research and will answer my own question

.

The item that heats the incubator is the screen and wiring hooked to the porcelain insulators. It is situated in front of the fan so that as it heats up the warm air is blow by the fan and distributed to the rest of the incubator. The Thermostats only regulate the heating unit.

The thermostat turned out great. I got about 90 percent hatch rates on a hundred and fifty chickens and about 80 percent hatch rate On 60 turkeys.
For some reason my hatch rate on Turkey's has not been as good as chickens.
The biggest problem I had was calibrating the temperature as I did not have an accurate thermometer to calibrate it too. Both of my thermostats came point eight degrees low, but once I figured that out my hatch rate success was great.
The thermostat is extremely easy to calibrate and I was able to calibrated point eight degrees.I know there are "better ones out there that are accurate to 0.2 degrees, but this one keeps it within 1 degree and the way I set it within half a degree of the desired temperature.
I personally don't see a reason to spend 80 or 100 bucks on one when this one is 15 or less.

I know this is a very old thread but the incubator model is the one I'm curious about. I have the incubator and also the brooder of the 1266. I don't need the brooder so was wanting to know how difficult to turn into another incubator? Is it possible to buy parts to convert it?

If you can get the brooder to maintain a temp of 99.5 or close to that and can control the humidity then you can use it as is for an incubator.

You can hand turn. Or you can purchase the turner unit from gqf, or some other turner unit. I don’t know if they would fit but you could try to purchase the hovabator or little giant automatic turners that are sold separate from their respective incubators and just stick them in the trays. If you do that you would need to drill holes for their power cords.
