BYC Café

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is on.
It's a bit warmer this morning than yesterday was and is expected to approach 90 today. :tongue
I'll tackle the rest of the deck first thing this morning before it starts getting really hot. Also hoping to finish installing the dishwasher. And microwave so I can get the backsplash finished and grouted.

These frickin chickens are driving me nuts!!
Last night when I went out just before roost time to move things out of the way to cut the grass, I can see Max, one of the cockerels, is in the brooder run. I can hear Astrid in the maternity ward clucking away. He now has no way out except to try to get past her. He makes two attempts and all I hear is a big ruckus in there, him screaming and then see him shoot out the pop door into the brooder run like a greased pig. I had to lift the roofs on the dust bath area and the run to get his dingy butt out of there.
When I finished cutting the grass and did lock up, head count and pullet/cockerel removal from nest boxes, one of the "cockerels" was HUGE!! And cluck-cluck-clucking at me... That CUCKOO Kerrie thinks she's making another play on motherhood!
I'm sell both of the Cuckoo Marans. Neither is laying. One is in full blown molt and the other is broody! Nice selling features.
But one fun thing to observe yesterday after I lobbed grape tomatoes (and accidentally pegged 3 birds with them ) was a show down between 5.5# Trudi and two two tiny 5 week old d'Uccle chicks!! Those little buggers where NOT going to give up their piece of tomato. And they didn't! Trudi walked away.

I've decided to keep one of the cockerels with little sister.
The one with the smallest comb that hangs out with her most the time,
while the other 2 boys seem to stick together. Interesting.

Feed mill owner said he'd sell them for me....yeah...we'll see if and how that works out.
Guys kinda shady, but a hell of salesman, his eyes briefly lit up when I called them Olive Eggers. He sold the OE pullet chicks for me last year at 10 a pop, this year he got his own to sell, not sure how that worked out....none to very few straight answers from this guy.
Will see, next week when it cools down again.

Hot days but cool nights.....pretty boring around here.
