It is the third year of an la Nina weather pattern.

Winter should be very similar to last winter.

Yes and no. Mild winters can still be bad ones ;) In fact, they can be the worst if the jet stream settles right over where you are - freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw... For us, where the jet stream ends up settling and when is more of an indicator than the El Niño/La Niña.

I think the talk is that we might be into an ENSO neutral phase by February-ish (out of La Niña) so that switch could shake things up a bit. 😬

Nova Scotia may not be effected so much by the Pacific ocean currents. The US is for sure though.

For us, there is a chance of more rain or less rain since we are in the middle of where the line of effect is. Hopefully we will get more rain here this year! Sadly Southern CA will most likely have another year of drought.

Farmer’s Almanac has been giving some ugly predictions. January is slated to be exceptionally bad.
Hopefully the Old Farmer got a bad batch of tea leaves.

Y'all are worsening my depression. :(:(
What can we do to perk you up?

How about this for a little relief?
Or is that a litter relief ;)
Cute pictures of cute puppies.

You must have a very obedient terrier 😂 Mine does not care for it. He just doesn't want to sit still for that long!
I didn't think JRTs ever sat still unless they were asleep!

We are much closer to NS than the Pacific so maybe la Niña will not affect us either

Sadly Southern CA will most likely have another year of drought.

It's not that it has no effect - certainly less, but it often impacts us a fair amount (just in different ways). I grew up in B.C., so we did have the full effect there as does all of western North and South America. It's just that more precipitation caused by La Niña can actually mean more snow heavy (and thus miserable) winters here IF the jet stream doesn't settle too far north or south - have to have the perfect combo for a bad winter.

What I find alarming is that La Niña is suppose to be the cool, wet, temperate part of the cycle for us in Washington and British Columbia... and that certainly hasn't been the case the last couple of years. We've had more drought-like conditions similar to those faced in California. And we're suppose to be wet here in Nova Scotia too and it's painfully dry.

Weather is very messed up for sure!

The Farmer, who may or may not have gotten hold of some bad tea, says we’re supposed to have a painfully dry year. 😭 That’s scary!
