Narragansett Turkeys, Anyone?

I utilize both.

My narri hen is a good broody. But all of my heritage varieties have turned out to be good moms.

I tend to collect eggs early in the laying cycle for the incubators. Then I let my hens go broody to slow egg production down and let my incubators catch up.

If you have a good hen and need them they can hatch a couple of clutches a year
 
Can anyone tell me about the narragansett temperament? I looking into getting two of these for my small flock
 
As a breed, Narragansett Turkeys have a very even temperament. They identify easily with people, as long as they are not abused they will come running whenever they see the handler. They are friendly birds with people that they know and recognize, they could be suspicious of strangers.

because they are so very curious, care should be given when they are around small children....they will peck shiny items that catch their attention, and children's eyes fall under that category.

I have a dozen Narri poults and three fully grown birds. The poults are very friendly. Like others have said, curious and peck at anything shiny of different colored. Lord help you if you have a scratch and are wearing short pants!!!

The grown birds are friendly but not overly so. Great foragers. Love to sleep outside regardless of the weather.

4 of my poults are golden narri's.
 
I'm hoping someone can help me decide if I should keep the darker of the Narragansett or not. The hens are pic'd here with the lighter tom then I have penned the darker Tom for processing but I love his colors!?!

Opinions please. DDay is Sunday for one of them.
