How do you know if your hen has an egg waiting to come out but it doesn't? She has laid an egg, but I think I can still feel one in there. She had a prolapsed oviduct about four days ago and again a little prolapse today. I have managed to wash her butt, dry it and put antibiotic cream on both times now. I was also advised to squirt cold water on her but to make the muscle withdraw the prolapse which I thought worked the first time. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you, I totally forgot I bought some the other day specifically for them!! Durr. Thanks for the reminder.

Still need to know how to tell if there is an egg that is blocked inside, would another egg bypass it?

No, I'm pretty sure if ones stuck nothing will get by it.. You can either put a couple of her kid fingers in the bench and see if you can feel anything or just gently push along the abdomen to see if you can feel anything... A calcium boost something even like a Tums tablet crushed up can help the muscle contractions get the egg out.

After a hen has a prolapse it is best if you get her out of lay so she can heal. You can do this by feeding her lower protein (scratch & greens) & keeping her in more hours of darkness. I know this doesn't help with your question, but chances are if she keeps laying eggs she continue with the same problem.

Thank you for all your replies folks. She is pooping and still laying, so fingers crossed everything has settled down. Have now added Tums and Prep H to the medical kit!
