My hens free range most of the day but I have very little grass now because of the bad weather, so I am giving them extra greens in the form of cabbage, cauliflower, courgette etc., is this sufficient to replace their grass intake? They have other things too like carrot, apple etc. and an occasional treat of a few (very few) grapes! Also can all this veg give them the runs?

Chickens being omnivorous will do alright on a lower green intake in winter. They would most likely go for a higher energy food given the choice. If they are getting a good feed with all the required nutrients I wouldn't worry, unless I really wanted the darker orange yokes.

Thanks for your reply, so nice to here from more experienced chicken keepers! I have now, just started, growing wheat in a small tub, and plan to grow more week by week, to have a continuous supply just to give them a different 'green' treat. It's only in small quantities so no doubt wont last long!!

Feeding greens might produce a looser stool due to the higher moisture content. However, a chronic case of diarrhea is cause for concern. Remember, though, chickens produce all types of feces. I like feeding greens especially for small backyard flocks kept in a confined area.

Good luck with them!

Thank you Theoldchick! It's a constant 'work in progress' with them!! Hopefully everything is ok, well it is for now anyway!
