Hi there - two weeks ago our broody just hatched her first egg (sadly just the one hatched out of 6). But she is a great Mum and the chick is doing well. Our small flock (just three hens and the chick) are free-range but have always been great at putting themselves back into their coop at night (which is raised off the ground). The first time new mother hen and chick ventured out they didn't manage to get back up into the coop and we had to pick up the chick to get them back in. We've made a big low ramp so are sure the chick could get in if following mother, but instead mother hen is now sleeping outside with her baby. Should we be trying to get them back into the coop, or just trusting mother hen to lead her chick in when she thinks the time is right? Its summer here so not too hot or cold, our only worry is really roaming cats or dogs or maybe stoats (mother hen is a big Australorp so don't expect any problems from rats). Any advice would be really appreciated! Thanks so much
