I am! I ordered 25 chicks from McMurray Hatchery. Oh! and one exotic breed chick!

4 Pearl White Leghorn pullets
1 Pearl White Leghorn Cockerel
9 Buff Orpington pullets
1 Buff Orpington cockerel
9 White Rock pullets
1 Dark Cornish cockerel
1 Exotic rare chick

After ordering I realized, they're all gonna look yellow as chicks! =D Well, except the dark cornish cockerel and the exotic one I guess...

If they all survive,
I'm planning on breeding my own version of meat chickens using the white rocks and dark cornish roo. I know, they're not gonna be as big, or even close to commercial birds, but I just wanted to have some fun with that. Buff orpingtons are also meant to be for meat, but that would be the next generation. Leg horns are for eggs. =)

Soooo, that's my plan! What's yours? and when are you going to buy more chicks? How many? from where? what breeds? why? =D

I am only looking to get a few exotic, and pullets. No roos. One Polish black with white fro. One all white silkie. And also looking to find a jungle fowl hen. I had these before but they went to the other side.

Cant have too many .I keep small flock as pets only.

I do! In fact, they should ship out today and get here Friday! I ordered:
7 Ameraucana (EE) pullets and 1 cockerel
6 cuckoo Marans pullets
5 partridge Chentecler pullets and 1 cockerel
3 Ancona pullets

Mostly I ordered them for a colorful egg basket, but I may use the EEs and Marans to try and make some olive eggers. My husband requested the Chenteclers, we've had that breed before and he really enjoyed them. I'm hoping they throw a few packing peanuts I the box too. Mine are coming from Ideal, can't wait!
:)

Supposedly, I have 12+ Cream Legbars coming from Greenfire. I say supposedly, because they refuse to communicate with me. Emails go unanswered, they do not provide a phone number, and I have no idea if the chicks have shipped like they said they would or not.

I guess when they show up on my doorstep, I'll know they shipped.

You would think for the price I'm paying I would at least get a ship notice. Even the mega-hatcheries do at least that....

I have a long wait yet. I have my first ever chicks set up for delivery date of April 6. 5 RIR and 5 Barred Rocks. I'm starting out small for my first time being a chicken owner , they will be raised for eggs. The wait is killing me !!!!

oh that sounds so exciting! The "colorful egg basket" is my side project for this year. =D My DH and I thought that would be a good selling point. ;)
Is Ideal good? I'm still kind of worried about my chicks arriving... You should post a picture when you get your babies!!! =D =D
I actually didn't know marans and EE make olive eggers =/ but that sounds like fun! =D
Good Luck!

its weird that they dont give a phone number! I checked their website too! They seem to have a facebook page, I would try that as well. Oddly enough, some people/businesses are good with the social media responses. https://www.facebook.com/greenfirefarms
That makes me appreciate the big hatcheries and their fast responses a little bit more lol
Well, I hope you get a hold of them and your babies arrive lively and healthy <3

Don't forget to post a picture! =D
Good Luck

Actually, April is a much better date than February. I've seen all the hatcheries recommend that. =D
oh the wait would kill me too! haha and then you have to wait another 5-6 months for eggs! It'll go fast, I promise. =D

I have a few bantams and silkies too. I LOVE their tiny eggs, they are the perfect size for me. I have one girl, kingsford, her eggs are the best! =D

Well, sorry - I won't be able to do that. I got so absolutely fed up that when I finally was able to get in touch with someone, I cancelled my order. Of course, their response only confirmed it was the right decision. Sigh. What to do now?
