Chicken tractor for meaties

I'm about to jump into a more intensive year of raising cornish x on pasture, and want the best design for a chicken tractor. I have the book "Pastured Poultry Profits" by Joel Salatin (my hero!), and it seems like he has it down pretty well. Does any one else have any tips or tricks? Thanks!

Emmm, no not really!! I rasie meaties but only in a brooder kinda thing!!!
 
I use close to the same set up as Salatin but mine is 8x8x2 just made them that size because lumber was that size. I am glad I did because anything bigger would not move as good on my hillside.
 
I believe mine is 6 x 7... again sized that way b/c of lumber and hilly terrain. I put lawnmower wheels on it, but they only allow movement in one direction, and easily hang up on every little hummock in my lawn. I find it easier to slip a couple of lengths of 2" x 10' PVC under it for rollers, By orienting the PVC in different positions, I can move it where ever I want. Then, it will sit flatter on the ground, making it less of a predator attraction.
 
Thanks, guys! That's very helpful. I know Salatin's chicken tractor dimensions are huge, and in every picture of them, they are on FLAT land. That's not the case here in northeast Georgia, in the foothills of the Appalachians. I think a smaller tractor on wheels will serve me well! :D
 
I have found that forty is a good fit in a 8x8 tractor. They get a bit crowded when they are full grown.
