Taming a rooster

Example of tame.

All my girls will do that with me, but I have to squat down because they are not nearly agile enough to make it up there as gracefully as that rooster did. And heaven help me if more than one of them tries to jump up at the same time. I love my girls but they are not lightweights! That rooster is beautiful! Is he yours?

You should probably start most of your chickens from chicks.

Especially if you want birds like mones.
Read to them, enjoy being petted, cam be picked up,roost with you,sun and dust bath with you, even clean you.

Yup. That's why I raised my big girls in the house and handled them from day one. I gather the OP did as well. My skittish roo was an unwanted gift. I got the pullets knowing they would be a project.

We got our girls when they were a few months old I think?, they were a few weeks before egg laying age. It was actually very easy to tame them, they were out in their coop from day one, but it was summer when we got them so we spent alot of time sitting outside with them and giving them seeds. Soon they were coming up to us demanding them, and following us around, even coming into our house.

Rooster is a wanted gift. Landlady gave him to us and I dont mind the effort to put in. Will try and get a photo of him. Today I need to try borrow a dog crate from landlady.

Few months is a accurate time. Most young birds are easier taming.
Also,it depends on how well theor treated, anf breed.

just an update on Rosie the Rooster. He is still in with the girls, has been there for about 2/3 weeks now. Definitely much better since we got him, you can walk around the coop and run now without him freaking out, he will just walk away to get away from you, without as much of the stressful clucking noises. If you walk towards him he will still freak out though so I havent been doing this at all. Note that this is all without any extra effort on my part, I have been just doing general maintanance around him and also scattering seeds for the girls.

We now have access to a dog crate so I think I will get that ready and bring him inside. Although it is obvious with more time he would improve on his own, I think that would just be to a level where he isnt completely freaked out my humans and can tolerate coming closer to us when we scatter food. I scattered some meal worms close to him today and I think because I was quite close to him the only thing he could think was to get further away from me, he paid not one bit of attention to the ground with the mealworms. So a bit more intensive socialisation is needed me thinks.

Further updates to come

Thanks!
