Hi guys

I can't find apple cider vinegar with 'mother' where I live. came across undistilled, pure coconut vinegar. Will it do as a substitute?

Also does it substantially reduce poop smell?

I will paste the following from a posting by Chris09 Cavemanrich is not a plagiarist.
It is said that -
Apple Cider vinegar benefits are:
*Reduces intestinal and fecal odors.
*Aids in digestion.
*Helps to break down minerals and fats.
*Assists the animal to assimilate proteins.
*Assists the animal to convert food better.
*It lowers the pH of the digestive tract which will make an environment less welcoming to pathogens therefore may reduce common infections and increases resistance to disease.
*Improves stamina and fertility.
*It is a great overall tonic that will improve the general well being of the animal.
If started while Birds are young (1-1/2 to 2weeks), birds
*Will feather out quicker.
*Are hardier.
*Grow to their potential sooner when used with an adequate feed.
Apple Cider Vinegar is rich in the vitamins, minerals and trace elements found in apples, especially potassium. It will normalize pH levels in the stomach, improve digestion and the assimilation of nutrients.
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) wont work as a "Natural" Wormier it has little affect on worms.
As for what type of Apple Cider Vinegar to use, any type of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar with mother (It doesn't have to be organic) will work.
Cautions:
Do not use metal water dishes (except stainless steal).
Vinegar should not be used internally with animals that have an irritated lining of the intestinal tract.
Do not use Apple Cider Vinegar wile treating for worms or coccidiosis.

Hope this gives some Ideas and help.

I cannot offer any advice on if coconut vinegar is a viable replacement for ACV, sorry. However, you could always make your own ACV - and unless you bother to remove it yourself, it will have a mother and be undistilled.

It is quite easy, but takes several weeks so it would not be a quick solution. These are the instructions I followed: http://untrainedhousewife.com/how-to-make-apple-cider-vinegar

A quick google/pinterest search should bring up lots of other recipes (though, they are all basically the same).

Thanks for your replies

Does anyone know if ACV/ coconut vinegar will be more effective that using 'EM' (effective micro organisms)?

Probiotics?? They will definitely help to improve the smells in the poop if the intestinal tract is healthy. And it does help with absorption of nutrients. Beefs up the immune system of the birds as well and stops pathogens from taking hold. If this is what you are looking for, ACV or Coconut Vinegar is not as effective as some sort of probiotics or these micro organisms you speak of. Go with the EM's. :)

T he one I'm using has lactic acid bacteria, yeasts and phototropic bacteria. Wonder if I can use both together
