Not an emergency : Pullet sinus infection, Tylan 50 didn't clear it up, help. . .

I gave 1/2 a cc of tylan 50 for 5 days and she has been off of it for about 5 days. Although it looks better, it still isn't better. I also have some Corid and some Duramycin. Should I give her another round of Tylan or try one of these others? If so, how long and what dose?

Aside from this horrible thing on her face, she is happy as a clam, eating and drinking fine.



 
Do you notice a bad odor around her face that might be coryza? In one of your previous threads, it sounded like your turkeys had some sort of respiratory infection, perhaps MG, a few months ago. The Tylan should help with MG, and you can increase the dosage to 1/2 cc twice a day if she weighs 5 lb. Are you giving it orally or as a shot? Coryza is better treated with Tylan, plus sulfadimethoxine or sulmet. What is the mark near her beak in the swollen area? Could she have been pecked? She may have a big bunch of hardened pus in the swollen area under the skin, unless it is a cyst. You could try to lance it and squeeze the pus out of it which may help. I would also use some plain antibiotic ointment or drops in her eye after cleaning it out with saline. Vetericyn eye gel would also work instead. Many people recommend Baytril for infections like this, but you would need to get it from your vet, unless you order it online. Enrofloxacin 10% is the equivalent drug, and it can be given orally. Baytril is against the law to give chickens, but many vets will use it in birds not intended for the table. I am not smelling anything. Yes, the one turkey had something with his sinuses and the Tylan cleared it up, within days.

I gave her (the pullet) Tylan injected into her neck. I initially brought her in because someone had pecked her eye and it was a little bloody. Somebody was probably attracted to that swollen area. I used antibiotic ointment on that, and it got better quickly.

I'm not sure I can lance it, I think I am gagging thinking about that. Maybe I can get my husband to do it. I'm no nurse that's for sure.

The dark spot looks like really nothing to me. I don't know what that is.

I need to weigh her to see if she is over 5lbs. Guess I can try lancing that thing (not me actually, blech) and giving her another round of Tylan.
