Hi everyone ! I have just adopted a flock from a neighbor who was unable to care for the chooks anymore , ages and breeds mixed from silkies to seabrights , barnevelders to Australorp , some have some issues , i have wormed and dusted them , but two of the Australorps have strange feet ?? Not bumblefoot , but it looks like dry growths ? WhiTe and dry ? Had no luck with vasaline , olive oil , just started to spray with coconut oil and it appears to be dropping off, any ideas ? Many thanks

Welcome I think you might do better if you posted in full detail and photos if possible at "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures," thread. Hope someone will be able to diagnosis and recommend treatment for their feet. Are any other birds in the flock affected? Sounds like the prior owner neglected them for quite some time. You are very kind to take them on.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Yes, it does sound like leg scale mites. Rubbing in vaseline can help this condition and if it is bad enough it can take months of using vaseline daily to get the scales to heal. Scales take a long time to slough off and regrow. But a picture of the legs would be very helpful. Definitely post in our emergency section with a picture.

Good luck and I hope you can get your birds back to good health soon!

I'm sorry to hear that your chickens may have Scaly Leg mites. I hope you can get the mites cleared up! Good luck with them.
