Hey everyone,
I got my first guineas a couple of weeks ago. Two of them seemed to react to their new environment straight away with frothy eyes, sneezing and shaking heads. I thought it was a reaction to ammonia and tok steps to correct that.

Right away I put them on an antibiotic and vitamins in their water. They both seemed to recover but after the treatment stopped one showed froth in the corner of just one eye and yesterday I noticed his nostril seems to be covered with something and his sinus looks swollen. This is all on his right side.

This morning I captured him and tried to wipe his eye and nostril with salt water but in the struggle (he is like houdini!) the cup tipped over :-( In the end I managed to avoid pecks and smeared some polysporin on his nostril. The he took off up to the rafters where I couldnt offend him anymore lol

I live in Eastern Canada and so its pretty cold here right now. I've just filled all the drafts that may be affecting him.
Also I'm removing the hay that is in the nest boxes just in case he is being affected by allergens from the hay. Could it be that he got something stuck in his nose during transport? or since he arrived?

Here are four of his buddies (I have six in total)

Sorry I'm going on a bit but I love my Guineas :)

I think I can see a little bit of hay stuck in the nostril now that area is less solid. At least I have found the cuplrit.
He scoffed lots of lettuce from my hand too so at least his appetite isn't off lol
