Hi, one of my hens Carol, a almost year and 1/2 old silkie started becoming very lethargic. She wouldn't eat or drink and would just have her eyes closed which sounded like cocciodisis. We took her to the vet and they did a fecal flotation test and checked her out. Nothing showed up in the fecal flotation test. He gave us then some baytril for her to take orally. We gave her the baytril for a number of days and she wasn't getting any better. She started not being able to stand up and would keep backing up. She then started twisting her neck right. I started giving her sulmet and vitamins(polyvisol without iron) near the end of the baytril. She then started getting better and started to eat and drink by herself. She also started to walk around a bit and stopped moving her head to the right all the time. When she poos it's green. I then skipped the vitamins for a day and she started twisting her neck right again. I gave her some vitamins then at night. Then later today. She can still stand up and her neck is getting a little better again but it still twists right. So I thought that maybe this could be a vitamin e deficiency. Since silkies are prone to wry neck which can be caused by vitamin deficiencies. I am not sure though. Since her poo is green which I think is caused by digestive issues. Can a vitamin deficiency cause digestive issues? It's been about a week and 5 days since this started. Also she is keeping her eyes open now most of the time. What do you think this may be? All of the other hens are acting healthy.

Well, mention it to the vet, for sure. Green poo..like bright green? Can mean dehydration. How well is she eating and drinking. Sounds like you are on the right track, definitely keep on with the vitamins and touch base with the vet.

She hasn't eaten anything tonight and only drank a little by herself. I have been giving her water by drops on her beak.

She does need water. You can try mixing her feed with applesauce. And give her grapes. Fermented feed stimulates their appetite, is good for them, is moist and is simple to make. But if nothing else, the applesauce and grapes give them a little liquid, they like them, and sometimes inspire them to eat and drink on their own. If she doesn't, you may have to tube feed her liquids, or liquid bird formula. Keep up with the droppers in her beak, too.

I started giving her more water through a needle-less syringe into her beak. After a little while after that she started drinking some water by herself. I don't have any applesauce to give her mixed in with her food so I scrambled up a egg. Last night We also gave her some corn juice by syringe. She hasn't eaten any of it yet so I thought maybe giving her the uncooked white of a egg by beak with the syringe would help her. What do you think? Do you think that's fine to do?

I also stopped giving her the sulmet. I gave her full dose for 6 days. Which is what it says to do for cholera(not that I think it is). So I decided to stop it. I thought maybe it might be causing her digestive upset.

Idk about the egg white. You need to talk to the vet, really. won't the vet talk to you again without charging you, if you just call them?
