Am I being unreasonable?

Not really sure where to post this besides the breeders area. Back in September I bought two chickens from a breeder. They were supposed to be a BCM and OE. Well, the BCM turned out to be Blue, not black, so I let that slide. But now, four months later, the OE is laying and the eggs are pale green, same as my EE. I told her and she offered an exchange and refund. Unfortunately my birds caught coryza from the neighbors' birds who get close to mine. So I told her I couldn't do that as I don't want to infect her flock. I'd just like a refund for the OE and she refuses to give anything other than a five dollar refund (I paid $35 each). Why? Because now it's an "ameraucana" and she sells those for $30. If I wanted an EE, I'd have paid the $4 at the feed store. Am I being unreasonable for not wanting to infect her flock and asking just for a refund for the mistake?
 
It's probably not the best idea to give the birds back to her when she is offering so much less for the birds than she originally did. Do you think your two chickens you got for her got the disease? I would fear if you kept them with Coryza it'll spread throughout future birds. I wouldn't sell the birds to anyone else either because then the Coryza mess might get worse.
No you're not being unreasonable for infecting her flock (that's a good biosecurity procedure) if you're afraid that these birds have it than I would ask how do you feeling about culling? Or is there a way you can treat this disease?

There's really no guarantee on egg color and she offered you an exchange. Not her fault that the birds got sick and can't be exchanged. If I were the breeder I would offer a discount or partial credit on replacement birds. Since you are planning to keep the birds I don't think a full refund is in order.
 
She was still asking for the bird back after. Even though she knew it was possible that it may be a carrier. When I told her the egg color, she said well that would make it an ameraucana, what she sells for $30. She then offered me a $5 refund. The bird is an EE, not an ameraucana or olive egger. If I wanted an easter egger, I would have paid $20 elsewhere for a pullet already laying. And she said a second generation OE, that's why I was expecting a dark egg. This one is mint green. I honestly feel she has no idea what kind of birds she has

Now that I think more about it I believe it's possible that these birds may have already been sick prior. My birds are just pets and I told her I was already attached, just that I wanted a refund, even a partial, for the mistake. I already put a lot of money into these birds, four months of care and feed, so to just get $35, giving the bird back, and no exchange is upsetting.
You can treat coryza symptoms but the bird remains a carrier for life
 
I went through the a similar thing where a breeder gave me a silkie pullet for $35.00 that gave some of my birds mareks and died itself. I'm always careful of who I purchase birds from because of dishonesty or in this case a possible spread of disease.

So this woman pretty much doesn't know what she has or what she's selling
 
A lot of folks who advertise birds as "breeders" simply aren't. They're just mini backyard hatcheries and propagators, I'm sorry to say. A true breeder probably is likely known by the breed club of that breed and has publicly shown the birds at better, APA or ABA sanctioned exhibitions. Caveat emptor the old Latin axiom still remains good advice. Sad but true.

I figured as much now. It was when we were talking that she actually seemed like she knew what she was doing and talking about. Now she just completely changed it around. I should have guessed that earlier when she didn't answer my questions. I just hope no other people get tricked by this woman.
