I will be using hardware cloth for my run. Just looking at options on the lowes website, I notice there's different sizes of mesh opening and gauge. What size should I opt for?

Go with the heavier 1/2" stuff (I think it's 18 gauge). The 1/4" stuff is too fine (it's like 27 gauge).

Agreed^^^...1/2" is usually 19 ga.......and the 1/4 is weaker and holes that small aren't really needed.

Are predators able to access 1/2 inch hardware cloth? I am just about to buy some!
No. You should be fine with the 1/2" stuff.

Thanks very much. I am buying it on sale tomorrow so I appreciate your quick response!
Just make sure you attach it well, screws and washers or screwed on trim boards, especially along the edges.

I am planning on using screws and washers. Just make sure that the nasty little critters on the outside can't push it through to the inside. If you use the staples, (watch out for smashed fingers!!) be sure to screw a trim board on to cover and secure them better. Predators are smart little buggers
