he should have a portfolio of finished mounts that he has done. thats always a good thing to check out first. any kind of artist worth their salt has a portfolio of completed work. is he a reputable taxidermist?

He is reputable, I have seen several of his deer and elk and bear. I thought they looked excellent. I live out of state, so i havent been able to go over to his home since shooting the cat. but my father saw a bobcat that he had finished and he said it looked good. and i think if i communicate with him what i want he can do it.

Sounds like hes the man for the job. If it looks good to you, dont worry about what anyone else thinks.. But it always sucks to aquire something your in love with and then have someone point out flaws and make you not like it so much.. Just like any trade, there are good ones and bad ones. Best of Luck to you and hope you dont lose anymore chickens to Bobcats. PS.. If that cat doesnt have a huge hole in it, the fur sells for $100+ at the north american fur auction.. Last year my low avg for bobcat was $94.15 ;) and my high was $123.00 The western cats are much prettier thsn our swamp cats
