So I have 5 hens. 2 RIR, 1White Rock, 1 White Leghorn and 1 Dom.
They all molted this year except my White leghorn. They all stopped laying (on a daily occurrence) during December. I would get maybe 1 egg every 2 days. The leghorn completely stopped until two weeks ago. Since they she's been laying a large white egg at least every other day. Well last Saturday I got a white egg, on Monday it was a light cream (I thought my eyes were just tired since it was 10pm by the time I collected eggs.) Then on Tuesday I got 4 eggs, 3 brown and 1 light tan. All the brown eggs are smaller than the white/light egg, which is always the case. Please see the picture of the eggs. Saturday's is in the middle, Monday's to the right and Tuesday's is too the left. I'm at a loss...I thought WL laid white eggs (at least she has been doing that for 2 years now.)
Now, one of my RIR just finished her molt last week and she is completely re-feathered now. All the brown layers always laid brown to dark brown eggs. And the ones who have molted and already started laying again, (1 RIR, Dom and WR) all maintained their normal egg colors. Is it possible that my 2nd RIR has started laying again and her eggs are lighter now?
On Saturday or Sunday I will know for sure, as I will be home all day and can check who lays what once they start singing their egg songs.
Just thought I'd see if anyone else has had this happen. I am a little concerned if my WL hasn't laid since Saturday (4 days ago), just wanting to make sure she's not egg bound if these are indeed not her eggs. She does not show any symptoms of egg bound though. Size wise they are her's, color wise I am stumped. Thoughts?
